Meet the Team – Q&A with Senior Associate Anna Lothian

After graduating with a first-class honours degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Dundee, Anna began her career in the medical device field, starting as a lab technician and working towards a technical manager role in Research & Development before joining Tower Mains as Senior Associate in 2023.

Here, she tells us what initially attracted her to QA, her career highlights, and what makes her tick outside of work.

What initially attracted you to a career in QA?

I needed a change. After working my way up to management in my previous job, which naturally moved me out of the lab, I started to think, what next? I got talking to people that worked in QA and started to think it might be the career for me!

What has been your biggest career highlight so far?

When the project that I led the reagent development for, first launched and started to sell on the market; it was exciting to know that I had contributed towards it.

You’re new to the team at Tower Mains, what have you enjoyed the most so far?

I love how varied the job can be working on projects with lots of different clients – I’m learning so much. Getting to know the rest of the team has been great as well, particularly the happy hour catch-ups on a Friday!

What makes you tick outside of work?

I love going to the theatre or a comedy show but I’m also a bit of a geek and love a night in with friends and a strategy board game, complete with good food and wine. Going to the gym or doing some yoga is a good way for me to unwind or cuddling up on the sofa with my parents’ dog (when I get to steal her) and a good book.

For Tower Mains, Anna prepares and delivers audits for GLP, GMP and GCP compliance, helps deliver internal and external training, and assists with analysing and improving research quality systems. Alongside this, she has been working away on our recently published ‘Conducting Laboratory Investigations’ course alongside Training Associate Erin Bell. Anna and Erin will be using their experience and expertise to provide a detailed walkthrough of how to conduct a laboratory investigation.
