Here, Katarina reflects on her journey with us…

2023 marked my FIRST ten years with Tower Mains! I would like to take this opportunity to thank our clients whom I have been fortunate to work with for the great collaborations over the years. Moreover, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all my colleagues (past and present) for their guidance and friendships and to Tower Mains’ Directors for the opportunities to grow both professionally as well as personally. I am thankful to be working at an organisation that fosters customised personal development based on an individual’s strengths and interests and supports work-life balance (and not just on paper).

The past ten years have been filled with an array of interesting projects, including 86 investigator site audits and 22 vendor audits and mock inspections conducted on behalf of 15 clients, and a two-year break from work to spend time with my young son. The projects have taken me to various parts of the world, including the UK, Hungary, France, Poland, USA, Slovakia, Spain, Romania, Estonia, Austria, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Israel, Germany, Sweden, Japan, Mexico, Columbia, Bulgaria, Italy, Moldova, Russia, Belgium, and the Netherlands. I have been privileged to serve on two RQA committees in the past and have had the honour to get articles published in RQA’s magazine QUASAR. I have enjoyed some great conferences and networking events, meeting colleagues from across various parts of the industry.

I started in clinical research in 2005 when paper Case Report Forms were the norm and I have experienced presentations given using overhead projectors (with handwritten transparencies). I find that the nature and main principles of what we do have not changed much, despite the recent technological revolution and the changes to the way we work brought about by, amongst others, the recent pandemic; I remember discussions years ago about possible remote auditing without much traction at that time.

I am looking forward to continuing my work supporting clients in their quest for compliance in clinical trials and getting involved in RQA and other initiatives in the future.
